Book Review #32 : Colorblind by Aditya Chowdhury
Author : Aditya Chowdhury
Genre : Dystopian Alternate Fiction
Ratings : ⭐⭐⭐⭐. 5/5
This is a different kind of story I have read in recent times. Here a person can see only one color throughout his life and every other color as shades of black and white. Wearing clothes or accessories of other colors is a disrespect to their own community. The Job they do also depends on what color they are.
Seeing more than one color is considered a dangerous disease that can be cured only through eye surgery which assures only 70 percent chances of survival.
Lohit is a red person living happily with his family and working in a factory segregating red packages from other colors. Everything was going fine until he meets Anjum, a green girl who enjoys every color.
She works in a shop which sells eyeglasses and she sold a special kind of sunglasses to Lohit which turned his life upside down and then disappears. His life became more difficult when the government agents came to know about his ability to see multiple color.
What will the agents do to Lohit?
Who is Anjum and why did she sell him the glasses?
Will be be able to cure his disease?
Very different and interesting story with a strong message. It conveys to the readers not to think only from their side of the story but advices them to have a different perspective altogether.
The narration is very simple and lucid. You can finish reading the book in one sitting. I liked the character of Anjum so much. You can relate everything that we see in our lives like community clashes, casteism, violence and much more in this book.
I really liked the way the author has narrated the story. For a debut author this work is amazing. The beautiful book cover and the blurb intrigued me to read this book.
The only disappointment is how the story ended. I felt it is rushed and I expected a little more exciting climax. Other than that i really enjoyed reading the book.
Overall it was a great read and I highly recommend it.
That's all for today guys.
