Book review #7 : Beartown by Fredrik Backman

🌺Author : Fredrik Backman
Genre : Fiction
Ratings : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

🌺I wanted to read this book because of all the hype it created on Social media and all the 5 star reviews, and now I am glad that I read this book. I loved this book so much that I can't wait to review it.

🌺This is my first book of Backman but I truly loved this book that I picked up his book 'A man called ove' as my next read.

🌺It is always people who we trust more are the ones that betray us more. And those who stand with us in our difficult times are the true friends.

🌺Beartown is a story of a town where hockey is everything to the people residing there. The town's future depends on the National hockey finals. The Hockey players are stars and they enjoy all the perks of celebrities. Everything is going well until the GM's daughter becomes a victim of a crime which involves the star player of the hockey team whom she trusted and loved. This incident leaves a traumatic effect on the girl and her parents. The story takes a different turn from there on and focuses on hockey and the girl who wants to fight for justice.

Will she fight for justice?
Will the culprit be punished?
Will she get justice?
Will she get the support from everyone in the town?
Will the hockey team win the finals?

You need to read the book to find out.

🌺The story shows us how the actions of one person affects the people around them. It shows how society treats boys and girls differently and about the rape culture. How girls are seen as culprits but boys as victims.

🌺Since I don't have much knowledge of hockey, I felt I will not be able to connect with the story much. But the hockey part is not explained so much technically so I could get a grasp of what is really happening.

🌺The story starts off a little slow due to the introduction of each and every character which has something or other to contribute to the story, and talks about hockey and the players but after few pages it takes a different turn and I really liked how the story went on from there.

🌺The story involves different emotions, friendship, team, love for hockey, peer pressure, family, rape and so on. It keeps you hooked till the end with much twists and turns. And I am very satisfied with the end and can't wait to read it's sequel Us against you.

🌺I would really recommend this book to everybody out there.. Go grab this book now..

That's all for today guys.
